SUMMARY

I write clear, engaging prose in tune with the brand positioning of forward-thinking clients seeking to engage audiences and build mindshare. Over the last decade, my work has included client-focused success stories, blog posts around connectivity and networking, charitable direct-mail appeals, website copy, Twitter feeds, podcast scripts, and magazine articles and profiles.

WORK EXPERIENCE

Spectrum Business/Charter Communications – Stamford, CT     May 2022 – Present

Copywriter

I write case studies around recent successes large and mid-sized organizations across industries and in the public sector have achieved by teaming up with Spectrum Business. These showcase innovative thinking achieved using advanced networking and connectivity tools. In 2023 and 2024, the number of published case studies more than doubled over the prior five years.

To leverage these case studies more effectively, I also write one-page capsule case studies that sales team members can share with customers and prospects. Researching and writing blog posts on topics like cybersecurity, AI, and cloud-based services has also been a focus of my role.

In September 2024, a case study I helped create on Texas State Aquarium won the 2024 Leading Lights Award for Outstanding Use Case in the category of Customer Experience. Another case study I worked on, on a Ford dealership which uses fiber connectivity to better service electric vehicles, was a finalist for another prize the same year, for Outstanding Use Case in the category of Driving Digital Innovation.

Data Axle Non-Profit Solutions – Rye Brook, NY     May 2019 – May 2022

Copywriter

I wrote direct-mail appeal letters for Data Axle, formerly known as Infogroup, a leading provider of data-driven marketing solutions. The clients I worked for included national non-profit agencies and religious institutions. I worked closely with account directors and their clients to find the right tone and message to represent Data Axle’s clients to donors and potential donors.

Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, I helped craft campaigns that substantially grew revenue for the charities we served, allowing them the room to better manage budget shortfalls from missed benefits, rallies, walk-a-thons, etc. as well as develop new messaging to appeal to younger demographics. My work took in everything from raising funds and health awareness for American Heart Association to promoting scholarships for the students of U. S. Marines.

Accenture – Chicago, IL     May 2016 – May 2019

Copywriter

I wrote content around social media campaigns for a variety of Accenture industry groups, including Health, Cybersecurity, Border Security, and Federal Government. This mainly took the form of producing short copy for Twitter and LinkedIn feeds, as well as for digital display tiles.

With Accenture Health in 2016, I expanded this into writing blog post content and connected social media callouts around relevant topics such as electronic health records and heart disease. Here I developed thought leadership with Accenture experts, using my journalism background.

Moffly Publications – Greenwich, CT     May 1992 – May 2019

Senior Writer

I produced over 100 cover stories and feature articles for a trio of high-end glossy magazines with strong community identification in Fairfield County, Connecticut: Greenwich magazine, New Canaan/Darien magazine, and Westport magazine.

I have researched, conducted interviews, and wrote top-billed profiles on several well-known figures, including New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman, actor Gene Wilder, NBC news anchor Brian Williams, and Environmental Defense director Fred Krupp.

Murphy & Company – Greenwich, CT     July 2006 – November 2017

Copywriter/Copy Consultant

I wrote and otherwise shaped content for dozens of websites and microsites for various top-tier businesses, including Citi, Duff & Phelps, Fluor, and Robert Half. I shepherded the development of highly technical explanatory text for the first-ever Robert Half Legal eDiscovery Services site.

I assisted Murphy & Co.’s brand positioning work by conducting interviews with senior stakeholders, examining/evaluating content, and developing presentations for major clients.

The New York Times - New York, NY     January 1995 – February 2007

Correspondent

I wrote close to 100 spot-news, feature, profile and other articles for the Times’ weekly Connecticut supplement, covering a variety of topics. I broke into the Times with an article about how seriously Connecticut police enforced the then-strict 55 miles-per-hour speed limit. For the better part of a decade, I wrote on average 12 articles a year for the Times Connecticut section.

These articles ranged from analyzing which parts of the state had the most powerful politicians to a visit to the Mark Twain House in Hartford. Highlights included a quiz on the people for whom state highways were named, articles about the transformation of the University of Connecticut into a technology-focused campus and anti-gang activities coordinated by the FBI in Bridgeport, and a profile on Connecticut-based crime author Ed McBain.

Greenwich Associates - Greenwich, CT     May 2000  July 2003

Content Editor/Press Liaison

I assisted in the creation and development of written content for Greenwich Associates’ subscription website, Greenwich.com, including analyses of the firm’s research of financial institutional investment practices worldwide.

As press liaison, I used my media background to develop stories of interest that I then pitched to reporters and editors. Publications using GA research supplied by me included The Wall Street JournalBarron’sBloomberg NewsPensions & Investments, and the Financial Times.

Connecticut Magazine - Trumbull, CT     February 1998 – May 2000

I authored a variety of stories, including pieces on OpSail 2000, the 2000 Summer Olympic Games, and controversy surrounding the Millstone nuclear power plant.

Greenwich News - Greenwich, CT     May 1988 – May 1992

Case Study - SmartCap [Published September 2024]

SmartCap speeds U.S. market growth with 400,000 square foot smart factory

“When we started putting this factory together in 2021, I thought the infrastructure was going to be my biggest problem, and to date, it’s been the least. If I had to describe my partnership with Spectrum Enterprise in a single word, that word is ‘easy." - Andrew White, Vice President Operations, SmartCap

In Fort Worth, Texas, a 400,000 square foot factory houses the assembly of stainless-steel SmartCap truck caps to support a growing U.S. market.

“We needed a team of network people to help us build the network that manages the automation and the data it runs on,” says Andrew White, Vice President Operations, SmartCap. “Spectrum Enterprise came to the table providing us with the right resources, especially with launching this facility in the short amount of time we had.”

Case Study - Foundation Risk Partners [Published August 2024]

Foundation Risk Partners tackles massive expansion through network modernization

“Having a trusted advisor is really important to us, one with a proactive approach to things. We have had vendors who say: ‘Here’s a tool. Tell us how you want it configured.’ No. We want them to tell us how we should configure it. Spectrum Enterprise gets that.” - Rich Dinan, Chief Information Officer, Foundation Risk Partners

In just six years, Florida-based insurance brokerage and consulting firm Foundation Risk Partners (FRP) has acquired 174 agencies with 182 locations across the United States. It plans to continue this high rate of growth through vigorous acquisition.

To overcome alignment barriers and optimize value in bringing together these agencies, Foundation Risk Partners needed a technology partner able to manage complexity by introducing the right infrastructure and solutions. They found that partner in Spectrum Enterprise.

Blog Post - Digital transformation for state IT [Published July 2024]

Three ways state IT leaders can foster digital transformation

State leaders are acutely aware of the need for digital transformation in capturing critical information, driving cost efficiencies and promoting a more unique and personalized experience for their residents. But actually realizing digital transformation can seem like an insurmountable challenge for their IT directors.

A holistic approach can be much too ambitious. Budgetary shortfalls, operational silos and skeptical stakeholders all must be overcome, not to mention a general institutional inertia that often hobbles the public sector.

Gartner recommends state governments pursue digital acceleration programs by keying on “quick wins,” identifying select initiatives that “reprioritize ongoing and planned digital initiatives based on their use case and value.”

Blog Post - Preventing Cloud Jacking [Published May 2024]

Three ways enterprises can prevent cloud jacking

Late on a Friday afternoon, an urgent message hits the inbox of a mid-level executive at a large data firm. The message seems to be authentic; not only is the sender identified as the executive’s boss but it is attached to a recent exchange of legitimate emails between the two.

The request, however, is unique. The executive is asked to send their password so their boss can access a system accessible only through their account. It is a highly irregular request, and the executive hesitates long enough to place a call. This results in a shocking discovery: There has been a breach in the company’s cloud infrastructure.
